Central Avenue School Mural

The Madison Education Foundation was delighted to partner with the Central Avenue School PTO to fund the creation of a captivating school mural.
Each student spent at least 45 minutes painting the expansive mural, which branches into several hallways.  Artist Caren Frost Olmsted, having received a list of students' ten favorite memories of CAS, designed the mural. Olmsted instructed and collaborated with the students and parents.  To celebrate Madison's 125th anniversary, the mural features notable locations throughout the borough, including the Millennium Clock, Hartley Dodge Memorial Building, CAS itself, and the Museum of Early Trades and Craft.  Favorite books, the school bus, field trip icons, and more figured into the mural as well.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony was paired with Family Reading Night which consisted of four 15-minute reading sessions in classrooms throughout the school.  In between sessions, students enjoyed popcorn and viewing the completed work.
